Delaware County EMS Captain Eric Burgess

captain eric burgessCaptain Burgess graduated from Licking Valley High School in Newark, Ohio in 1994.  He then attended Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Sports Medicine in 1998.

After college, Captain Burgess returned to Newark where he took a job as a claims processor at State Farm Insurance.  After he decided that life in a cubicle was not for him, he joined the Hanover Township Volunteer FD.  During this time he obtained his EMT-B, EMT-P and volunteer FF certifications.  Captain Burgess worked several part time jobs, as we all have done, including the Heath FD and the Central Ohio Joint Fire District.  Captain Burgess joined the Newton Twp Volunteer FD in 2002 where he continues to be active today as a Lieutenant. 

In 2001, Captain Burgess was hired as an EMT-P at DCEMS.  He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2004 and to Captain in 2009. 

Captain Burgess is a State of Ohio EMS-Instructor, as well as an American Heart Association ACLS and BLS instructor, 36 hr FF and open water diver.  He is also a lead instructor for C-TEC of Licking County in their EMT program. 

Captain Burgess resides in Newark with his wife and two daughters.
