Delaware County EMS Captain Murray Smith

Captain Smith graduated from Buckeye Valley High School in Delaware County in 1974.  After graduation, he worked in his families business as a mechanic repairing automobiles, trucks and farm equipment.  He joined Radnor Township Fire Department in 1975 and became a Volunteer Firefighter / EMT.

Shortly after, he started his own lawn and garden sales and service by day, and went to Paramedic school at night.  After graduating, Gold Star Ambulance in Marion, Ohio hired him on a 24/48 hour schedule.  At the same time, Concord Township Fire Department hired him, too, as one of six of their first full time firefighter / Paramedics on a 24/48 schedule.

Captain Smith came to Delaware County EMS part time in April 1990, and since this was where he REALLY wanted to work, it wasn't hard for him to leave the other positions when the opportunity presented itself.  DCEMS offered him full-time status in November 1990.

Captain Smith's first full time assignment was at Station 1 in Delaware City.  He was promoted to Crew Chief in 1993, to Duty Supervisor in 1996, and to Captain in 2004.
